Reset Google Chrome Web Browser to Default Settings

You can follow these steps to reset your Google Chrome web browser to its default settings.

If your Google Chrome browser starts to act slow, or displays unwanted advertisements, or redirects your desired searches to an unknown site, you may have picked up an unwanted plugin, or have been hijacked. Resetting Chrome to its default settings can help. The reset feature fixes many issues by restoring Chrome to its factory default state while saving your essential information like bookmarks and open tabs.

 

Reset Google Chrome – Windows Machines

  1. Click the menu icon next to the address bar.

  2. Select Settings from the drop-down menu.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Settings page and click the Advanced link.

  4. Scroll to the bottom of the expanded page and click the Reset button.

  5. Click the Reset button in the pop-up window.

Reset Google Chrome Web Browser to Default Settings – Mac Machines

  1. Click the menu icon (The menu icon is a gray square with three horizontal lines.) next to the address bar.

    The menu icon appears on the far right side of the URL bar of the browser window.

  2. Click Settings.

    The vertical menu that expands from the menu icon includes Settings as the second-to-last option on the list.

  3. Click Show advanced settings… at the bottom of the page.

    Show advanced settings... is the last option on the bottom of the Settings screen.

  4. Scroll down the page and click Reset settings.

  5. Confirm you’d like to reset your settings by clicking Reset.
